St Peter’s Church Choir

The very well-established church choir of St Peter’s Church is made up of choristers of all ages and abilities. It meets most Monday evenings in term time between 6pm and 7.30.

The choir contributes to worship once a month in Sunday services at St Peter’s at 6pm in summer months and 3pm in the winter. It also takes a large part in the Christmas Carol Service and other festivals throughout the year.

At least one weekend a year, the choir sings, along with the choir of All Saint’s, Barry, in a prominent English or Welsh Cathedral, usually with an evensong on Saturday and a Holy Eucharist and Evensong on the Sunday. Recent venues include Exeter Cathedral, Tewkesbury Abbey and Ely Cathedral.

Our repertoire is extensive and includes Mass settings and Evening Canticles by Mozart (eg. The Coronation Mass); Vierne; Wood etc and anthems by H Parry (eg, I was Glad); Mansel Thomas (For thy servant David); Cesar Franck (Panis Angelicus); John Rutter amongst many others.

The choir master is James Bull, B. Mus. His contact details are james_bull@me.com or 07429 598820.

If you are interested in joining and would like more information, please contact James or Delyth Hurley delythmhurley@gmail.com or 07921258823.

The choir would welcome new choristers in all four voice sections, i.e. soprano, alto, tenor and bass and especially youngsters from the age of 8 or 9 upwards. The ability to read music is not essential and a great deal of help is provided by the Choirmate app, free to all choristers, in which recordings of separate voice parts to aid practice as well as full performances are uploaded for every service.
