Father Martyn Davies
Ministry Area Leader
I was ordained in 1985 and have served in a variety of parishes from the Rhondda and Merthyr valleys to the Vale of Glamorgan, where I am Ministry Area Leader in the East Vale. I have always had a passion for working in teams and with people who have different skills, whether lay or ordained. This is the most rural Ministry Area in the Diocese and we often have students on placement with us during their training, which is something that I particularly enjoy. At the heart of our Ministry Area is strong local lay leadership in our 8 churches.
Michael is married to Glynis and they have three grown up children. He was ordained in Llandaff Cathedral in 1989 and has served in three other Dioceses in England and Wales in various capacities before returning to Llandaff in 2012. He has pastoral care for Llancarfan and Llantrithyd Churches in the EVMA.
I became a vicar in 2025 after having served my curacy in East Vale Ministry Area. I've loved getting to know our 8 churches and the communities we serve. I now have particular pastoral care for St. Nicholas and Bonvilston, along with the communities of St. George's and Drope.
I've been a vicar in the East Vale Ministry Area for three years, living in Pendoylan, with pastoral responsibility for Pendoylan and Welsh St Donat's, including being a governor at Pendoylan CiW Primary School. Prior to becoming a vicar I had a long career as an accountant and now spend half my time helping Ministry Areas across the Diocese with their money.
I am the curate placed in East Vale Ministry Area and was lucky enough to train here as an ordinand too. Like all the clergy, I work across all our 8 churches, but I have a particular focus on working with families and children.
I was raised as a Christian by parents who attended church regularly and who led lives informed by their Christian values. My role as a parent and my career as a teacher and therapist have similarly been informed by my faith. I have been a member of church committees and voluntary organisations throughout my life and feel privileged to be able to serve my Ministry Area in the East Vale.
Community is important to me and I feel strongly that the role of the church is to be part of the community and create a safe environment where people of all backgrounds can come and feel connected. I have a lot to learn in the role of Lay Chair, and I look forward to having the time to make a difference.
